Among all adventures listed here, the first one was the toughest one. During the First Gulf War I enlisted in the Army and served as an infantryman in the 82nd Airborne Division. I completed 25 parachute jumps and a deployment to Central America and learned to fight in the desert, patrol urban terrain, drive a hummer, maintain communications, and parachute with a missile system. I earned the expert rifleman badge, parachutist badge, and Honduran parachutist badge. Part of my motivation to serve came from my grandfather. He enlisted in the Army during World War II and served as a field lineman in the 29th Infantry Division. He participated in the D-Day assault of Omaha Beach and survived the Battle of the Bulge.
"Infantrymen are the underdogs. They are the mud, rain, frost, and wind boys. They have no comforts, and they even learn to live without the necessities."
